UX San Antonio
We learned by doing, designing a new website for volunteers to engage with UX San Antonio.
Opportunity
UXSA is an organization that supports the UX community in San Antonio by creating ways for people to connect, explore, and grow.
They wanted to redesign their Volunteer page to have better engagement from the UX community, by offering clear opportunities. They organized a Remote Design Sprint, and I participated as a UX Researcher.

Approach
A 6 day sprint spread out over 6 weeks on Saturdays with volunteer UX Researchers and designers meeting on zoom weekly. Being led by the UX San Antonio team this was a chance for them gather a group of professions from across the disciplines to map, sketch, decide, prototype and test a new version of their volunteer portal.
Research
We Identified 4 categories after the interviewing of stakeholders through a 20 minute exercise of sharing findings and then voting on our priorities of āHow Might Weā
In those categories we identified opportunities that aligned to the initial briefing that could have some overlap and accomplish our key goals.

How Might We?
Make the volunteering process more transparent?
Target newbies, midlevel professionals and mentors to volunteer?
Categorize volunteer opportunities based on soft/technical skills?
How can we make it clear that UXSA is a place for mentorship/growth?
Offer opportunities for learning?
Make sure we are supporting current, new and prospective volunteers?
Shared successes and achievements on the page?
Write a clear mission/vision of the group?
Sketch & Wireframe
Team members individually sketched wireframes for 45 minutes either analogue or digitally as most comfortable and for speed. We brought these together and voted on details that accomplished our goals from the HMWs.
Iām more efficient in a short timeline digitally and created a quick wireframe to most clearly present my thoughts.
Prototype
As a team we handed off wireframes in Figma to a member of the UXSA board who also ran/organized the sprint to be prototyped in the current design language of their site.
Testing
Through our interviews and usability evaluations we discovered that our initial prototype was viable and ready to launch with-in the current UXSA website.
Launch had been delayed.
Takeaway
Amazing experience sprinting with likeminded designers to tackle a project like this hitting the ground running.
Trust the process to get you where you need to go.
Concise communication goes a long way.
Would have loved to gather feedback from a live site and see if the implementation of our design truly answered the users needs.
